Presently  Aryabhatta Research Institude of Observational Science (ARIES) operates two optical telescopes viz. the 104-cm Sampurnanand Telescope (ST) and the 130-cm Devasthal Fast optical telescope (DFOT). The  former is operational since 1972 while the later got commissioned recently in 2010. Both the facilities are mainly used to monitor the celestial objects at visible wavebands and the resulting data can be used to probe the physical properties of galactic as well as extra-galactic sources ranging from stars to galaxies. Both the telescopes are operated in visitor mode and the main instruments are optical imagers and an imaging polarimeter. Further details on conditions and capabilities of site,  telescope and instruments can be found here.
