ARIES Ph.D. Programme (Registration is closed for 2019)

Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observational SciencES (ARIES) is a premier research institute under the Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India. ARIES conducts Ph.D. programme in Astronomy & Astrophysics and Atmospheric Sciences and here applications are invited for the same.
All the selected students will go through intensive Ph.D. course work during the first year and only after the successful completion of the Ph.D. course work, student will be allowed to join the ARIES scientist for the Ph.D. and leading to the registration for Ph.D. degree in a university having MoU with ARIES.
Students are paid a scholarship of Rs. 25,000 /- per month for first two year and Rs. 28,000 /- thereafter for next three years, subject to satisfactory progress. They are provided a book grant of Rs. 10, 000 /– per annum for five years. In addition, financial support up to ₹ 1.0/- lakh is granted for participating in an international academic conference during the Ph.D. tenure, excluding the duration of the course work. Students are also provided campus hostel accommodation during their Ph.D. ARIES also encourages and supports the visits of students for observing programme of their research, along with participation in national and international conferences.

PhD Admissions, 2019

Minimum qualification for PhD interviews at ARIES:

  1. Nationality: Only Indian citizen.

  2. M. Sc. Physics/Astrophysics with minimum 55% for General/OBC and 50% for SC/ST

  3. The candidate should have passed M. Sc. on or after 2017. Students who are appearing in M. Sc. final year exam can appear before the interview, but, if selected have to furnish the proof of M. Sc. qualification as per above guideline (2).

  4. Age limit: 28 years as on July 1, 2019 (on or after July 1, 1991). Upper age limit for OBC/SC/ST is relaxable as per the central government rules.

  5. Applicants should have qualified JEST-2019 in Physics -OR- CSIR-NET (JRF/LS) qualified in Physics/Earth, Atmospheric, Ocean and Planetary Science -OR- GATE - 2018/GATE -2019 qualified in Physics/Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences.

  6. All the applications will be further screened by taking into account marks/ranks in JEST/GATE/CSIR-NET and M.Sc. and other guidelines decided by ARIES. Fulfilling minimum qualification does not guarantee a call for the interview.
