Plan your journey to the Devasthal Observatory

The Devasthal Optical Telescope is located at the Devasthal campus of the Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observational Sciences (ARIES), approximately 50 km from the main Manora campus. The Devasthal campus is a beautiful site situated in the foothills of the Himalayas, near Dhanachuli in the Nainital district of Uttarakhand. The nearest cities to Devasthal are Nainital (52 km) and Haldwani (63 km). Devasthal can be reached by both air and rail, as described below:

By Air

The nearest airports are:

  1. Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi: 349 km
  2. Pantnagar Airport, Pantnagar, Udhamsingh Nagar, Uttarakhand: 89 km

From Indira Gandhi International Airport, you may either take a train to Kathgodam Railway Station or a bus to Haldwani Bus Stand. From Kathgodam or Haldwani, taxis are available to reach the ARIES Devasthal Campus. If you are traveling from Pantnagar Airport, you may take a taxi directly from the airport to the ARIES Devasthal Campus.

By Railways

The nearest railway station is Kathgodam Railway Station, located approximately 56 km from the Devasthal campus. Kathgodam is well connected to major Indian cities. As mentioned above, you may take a taxi from there to reach the Devasthal campus.
