About HiSTAR

The Himalayan School for Training in Astronomy Research (HiSTAR) is an annual initiative by IUCAA aimed at strengthening research training in astronomy and astrophysics across the Himalayan and adjoining regions of India.

The programme began with HiSTAR-I, an introductory summer school for undergraduate and postgraduate students held in Dehradun.

HiSTAR 2026 builds on this initiative with a dedicated winter observational school for early-career researchers.

The school will provide practical exposure to observational astronomy through training in observing techniques, astronomical instrumentation, data reduction, and analysis, together with direct experience of telescope observations at Devasthal.

To provide researchers in the region with greater opportunities for practical training in observational astronomy and familiarity with India's astronomical observing facilities.
