Abstract

This thesis project presents the optical photometry and spectroscopy of  SN 2013he, a Type-II Plateau Supernova (SN II-P) in NGC 4774.  It has a relatively short recombination phase, which is uncommon for a Type II-P SN. Short Plateau SNe (50-80 days), the few that have been studied, have also exhibited shared characteristics such as luminous optical peaks (absolute V band magnitude less than -18.4 mag), which points towards significant mass loss prior to the explosion, stripping the H-rich envelope and early ejecta-CSM (circumstellar material) interactions.  Evidence of the above claims is observed in the spectra of SN 2013he, especially in the evolution of the H-α line profile. The bolometric light curve and its semi-analytical modeling provide us with useful estimates of the explosion parameters of SN 2013he, results of which also support the properties of a typical short plateau SN
