Research Associate/PDF Position for ARIES Data Archival Project

The Aryabhatta Research Institute of observational sciencES (ARIES), Nainital, India is seeking a Post Doctoral Fellow to work on the “ARIES Data Archival Project”. The successful candidate will work with Dr. Kuntal Misra and other members of the data archival team.

ARIES operates the two largest 4m class telescopes in the country - the International Liquid Mirror Telescope (ILMT) and the Devasthal Optical Telescope (DOT) and two-meter class telescopes - the 1.04 m Sampurnanand Telescope (ST) and the 1.3 m Devasthal Fast Optical Telescope (DFOT). ARIES has been archiving the data obtained with these facilities during the last two decades, which a larger scientific community can use to produce exciting results. In this process, the data archive team homogenises the data that can be released in the archive.  In the next phase, this will be extended to provide processed data to the users.

Interested candidates for this position are expected to have sufficient background in optical astronomy with experience in observing with telescopes, photometric and spectroscopic data reduction techniques with IRAF/Python and programming experience in Python. The candidate is expected to devote 50% of their time to this project, and the remaining 50% can be used for their research activities.
