ARIES is working on a project in the field of Space Situational Awareness (SSA) in collaboration with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), Ghaziabad. The project focuses on the utilization of ground-based optical telescopes for monitoring resident space objects across various orbital regimes. The activities include night-time observations, precise tracking, and characterization of satellites and space debris. The acquired data are processed through advanced data reduction and analysis pipelines, along with the development of AI/ML-based algorithms for automated detection and classification of streaks. The project also involves orbit determination, tracking refinement, and visualization of space object trajectories. In addition, efforts are directed towards developing scalable data archival systems and real-time data dissemination frameworks. The program further encompasses development of telescope subsystems, high-speed detector integration, control software, and prototyping of dedicated SSA instrumentation in close coordination with industry partners.

For the BEL project, it is proposed to recruit three Project Associates (Project Associate-I/II) as per DST norms (OM No. SR/S9/Z-05/2019 dated 10 July 2020), along with one Project Assistant. These positions will support various activities under the SSA program.

Positions and Roles:

1. Optics: B.Tech in Optics/Opto-electronics or M.Sc. with specialization in Optics. Work includes optical system characterization, alignment, calibration, detector integration, and performance evaluation of telescope systems.

2. Electronics: B.Tech in Electronics or related branches, or M.Sc. with specialization in Electronics. Work includes development and integration of control electronics, detector systems, embedded systems, and telescope automation.

3. Software / Data Processing: B.Tech in Computer Science or related fields (including Aerospace, Instrumentation) or M.Sc. in Astronomy or related areas. Work includes software development, data processing pipelines, AI/ML-based detection, tracking, visualization, and data archival.

4. Project Assistant (Technician): Diploma in Electronics or related field. Responsible for system setup, integration, rework, maintenance, electronic board development, instrument testing, and lab support.

Terms and Conditions:

1. Tenure: Initially for one (01) year (co-terminus with project).
2. Monthly Emoluments:

Service conditions shall be governed as per the Institute’s norm & DST guidelines, as amended from time to time.

3. Termination: Director ARIES reserves the right to terminate the engagement/contract at any stage in case of impropriety, misconduct, breach of conditions, irregular attendance, or poor performance quality.
4. Posting: The selected candidate will be posted at ARIES, Nainital campus and will have to travel to Devasthal Observatory to perform observations with the telescope.
